DeToyz original shopfront in Seremban, circa 2009

We didn’t start with a dream. We just wanted to make a living.

DeToyz began in 2009 as a small shop on a busy street in Seremban.

Back then, we sold toys for kids — capsule machines, Thomas & Friends trains, Tomica cars, and a few Gunpla kits on the side. We liked building models, sure, but this wasn’t some grand vision. It was simply a way to make a living.

Online, we started with a LEGO-only website called mybricks2u.com.

It didn’t really reflect what the shop was about — because DeToyz wasn’t just selling LEGO.

We were slowly turning into a hobby corner where people asked about paints, tools, model grades, and which kits were beginner-friendly.

In 2010, we became an official LEGO reseller.

By 2014, we moved everything over to detoyz.com, a name that reflected what the shop had truly become.

2012

First Gundam Contest — with judges and top 3 winners

In 2012, we held our very first Gundam contest — a small event, judged by a few invited guests, but one that marked the start of something more.

From there, we ran contests every year, and in 2018, we stepped out of our little shop and collaborated with Book Garden to organize a full-scale model exhibition. That event included workshops for beginners and was the first time we realized just how big this community had quietly grown.

As the years passed, our product lineup changed.

Fewer capsule toys, more Gunpla.

Fewer kids’ cars, more paints and tools.

Customers weren’t just shopping — they were building. And they had questions: What’s the difference between Mr. Color and Gaia? Which primer sticks better on ABS? What’s the best kit for someone just starting out?

We responded the only way we knew how — by sharing what we’ve learned.

Through blog posts, build photos, tips, and honest answers. No hype. No upsell. Just one hobbyist talking to another.

Today, DeToyz is still a small, independent store — but now in a quieter upstairs space, away from the traffic, where we can focus on what really matters.

The website has evolved too: not just a shop, but a content-driven platform for builders who want to go deeper.

We’re not here to sell you everything.

We’re here to help you find what makes you want to build.
