Mobius 0.2mm Airbrush – Premier Series

This article continues the evaluation started in Part 1: First Look / Inventory Log. In this part, I focus on the Mobius 0.2mm airbrush from Gaahleri’s Premier Series.

This part documents the physical inspection and spray tests performed on the Mobius 0.2mm airbrush during the evaluation process.

Physical and Appearance Check

The airbrush comes packaged in a compact box with foam protection.

The first item visible when opening the box is the information/support card from Gaahleri, together with the airbrush component diagram printed on the inner side of the box cover.

The card indicates that the airbrush was tested before leaving the factory, and that a replacement will be arranged if any manufacturing issue is verified.

A multilingual quick start guide is also included. It is generally useful to review the guide before using a new airbrush, as different manufacturers may implement different internal designs.

Inside the packaging are the airbrush, a detachable paint cup, and spare O-rings.

The inner surface of the cup is machined to a mirror finish, which should help during the cleaning process.

The airbrush body includes a flat resting area that allows the thumb to sit comfortably while holding the airbrush.

This 0.2mm airbrush also includes an airflow control knob, allowing airflow to be adjusted directly from the airbrush itself. This provides an additional layer of control besides the compressor regulator and the fluid control knob.

The weight of the airbrush is approximately 115g, which feels balanced and comfortable in hand.

Looking closer at the needle and nozzle, the machining appears precise, although the actual spray test is where this will be verified.

An O-ring is installed on the nozzle cap. This component requires some care during maintenance. The nozzle cap should not be over-tightened, and the O-ring should not be twisted during installation. It is also advisable to avoid soaking this part in strong thinner that could damage the rubber material.

Gaahleri provides two spare O-rings in the package.

Unlike traditional screw-type airbrush nozzles, the Spiral Micro Air Channel Nozzle design allows the nozzle to be removed and installed easily. This design also makes internal cleaning more convenient.

The nozzle itself also contains an O-ring, and spare replacements are included.

Spray Test

Test Conditions

  • Paint: Mr Color C-5 Blue
  • Thinning ratio: 1:2
  • Air pressure: 20psi and 30psi
  • Spray distance: approximately 5–6cm
  • Surface: Standard A4 paper

The following spray tests were carried out:

  • Fine line test at 20psi and 30psi
  • Gradient test at 20psi (spray distance approximately 5–6cm)
  • Dot control test at 20psi
  • Full spray pattern test at 20psi (spray distance approximately 5–6cm, 1 second full pull)

The purpose of these tests is to observe behaviors typically required from a 0.2mm airbrush, such as fine shading, mottling, micro detail work, micro chipping effects, and controlled pre-shading.

Test Results

The following sheet records the results from the fine line, gradient, dot control, and full spray pattern tests performed during this session.

Gaahleri Products Test Log - Data sheet with zoom in measurement details

1. Fine Line Test

  • The trigger movement felt smooth and responsive.
  • The slight waviness visible in the lines is caused by hand movement. The trigger response itself remained consistent.
  • No broken lines, sputtering, or sudden paint dumping was observed during the test.
  • At 20psi, the minimum line thickness achieved was approximately 0.2–0.3mm.
  • At 30psi, the minimum line thickness achieved was approximately 0.4–0.5mm, which is expected due to stronger atomization at higher pressure.

2. Gradient Test

  • This test was performed to observe trigger predictability and paint transition behavior.
  • The test was conducted at 20psi, with a fixed spray distance of approximately 5–6cm.
  • The airbrush was moved from left to right at a steady speed while gradually increasing the trigger pull.
  • The spray width began at approximately 3.5mm and increased to about 12mm at full trigger pull.
  • Two gradient passes were tested and both produced similar results.
  • The transition appeared smooth and linear without sudden jumps in paint output.
  • Atomization appeared stable and the gradient remained even.

3. Dot Control Test

  • This test was conducted to observe needle alignment, trigger linkage precision, and air/paint synchronization.
  • The smallest dot diameter achieved was approximately 0.6–0.8mm.
  • The dots produced were clean round circles.
  • As trigger pull increased gradually, the dot size increased predictably.
  • At approximately 5cm distance, the dot diameter reached about 9mm.

4. Full Spray Pattern Test

  • This test was used to observe maximum paint flow and atomization behavior.
  • At 20psi, spraying from approximately 5–6cm distance with a 1 second full trigger pull produced a circular spray pattern.
  • The spray diameter measured approximately 11mm.
  • The paint distribution appeared even, with no flooding, sputtering, or spidering observed.

Closing Notes

This part of the test log documents the physical design, construction details, and spray behavior observed during testing of the Mobius 0.2mm airbrush.

The full evaluation will continue with testing of the ACE Series airbrush and the Kaleido acrylic paints before a final overall conclusion is made.

The next part of this test log will focus on the Swallowtail Barbatos Rex Ver. – Collaborative Edition (ACE Series) airbrush.
