Gustav Karl is not a sleek mobile suit. Its appeal comes from the heavy armor and solid presence.

The sliding hip joints help a lot when posing such a bulky unit. Without that mechanism, large suits like this usually feel stiff. This version allows more natural poses while keeping the build simple in HG format.
