Overview

HGUC 1/144 RX-78NT-1 Gundam NT-1 Alex recreates the prototype Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket.

Developed by the Earth Federation as a high-performance mobile suit for Newtype use, the Gundam NT-1—commonly known as Alex—retains the familiar RX-series Gundam appearance while adding increased mobility, concealed forearm Gatling guns, and removable Chobham Armor.

The main feature of this HGUC kit is its two distinct display styles. Builders can assemble Alex in its clean blue-and-white Gundam form or attach the full Chobham Armor set for a heavier, military-style appearance. The forearm armor can also be configured to expose the Gatling guns, allowing the kit to recreate one of the suit’s most recognizable combat features.

Things to Note

• This is a plastic model kit and requires assembly.

• This is an older HGUC release, so the articulation and internal engineering are simpler than newer High Grade kits.

• The Chobham Armor adds considerable bulk and may reduce movement around some joints.

• Some armor pieces need to be removed when changing between armored and unarmored configurations.

• The forearm Gatling gun display uses separate cover or replacement parts rather than a fully opening mechanical hatch.

• Some smaller color and marking details are reproduced with stickers.

• Product images may show a painted, panel-lined, stickered, or professionally finished sample.

• Basic hobby tools such as a nipper, sanding tools, tweezers, and panel liner are recommended.

• Painting is not required, but panel lining, detail painting, weathering, and top coat can improve the final display.

HGUC Gundam NT-1 Alex is a classic kit with one very clear advantage: it gives you two different looks in one box.

Without the armor, Alex has a clean and familiar RX-style Gundam silhouette. Once the Chobham Armor is attached, it becomes a much heavier and more military-looking machine. The concealed arm Gatling guns add another layer of personality that separates it from a normal beam-rifle Gundam.

The engineering reflects its 2004 release, so this is not a modern high-articulation HG. Its appeal is the design, the removable armor system, and its importance to War in the Pocket. It also works particularly well for weathering because the Chobham Armor can be finished with scratches, chipped edges, soot, and battle damage without changing the cleaner inner Gundam.
