Overview

Bandai’s MG 1/35 AV-98 Ingram Unit 2 brings the distinctive police Labor from Mobile Police Patlabor to the Master Grade model kit series.

Assigned to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Special Vehicles Section 2, Division 2, Ingram Unit 2 is most closely associated with its hot-blooded pilot, Isao Ohta. Its distinctive head, shoulder design and heavily armed police configuration give Unit 2 a noticeably more aggressive appearance than Ingram Unit 1.

This 1/35 Master Grade kit combines exterior accuracy with mechanical features such as an opening cockpit, deployable warning light, removable rear armour and a Revolver Cannon storage mechanism inside the right leg. The weapons package includes the Revolver Cannon, Stun Stick and Unit 2’s large Riot Gun.

Synthetic-rubber joint covers reproduce the Ingram’s flexible protective material, while the included Isao Ohta and Kanuka Clancy figures add scale and character to the finished display.

• This is a plastic model kit and requires assembly.

• This is the standard MG Ingram Unit 2 release, not the separately released LED-lighting version.

• LED patrol-light units and electronic lighting components are not included.

• The kit was originally engineered in 2001, so its articulation and joint construction differ from newer Master Grade releases.

• The synthetic-rubber joint covers require careful positioning while assembling the internal structure.

• Paint and primer may not adhere to the rubber covers as easily as standard plastic parts.

• The Riot Gun is large, so careful hand and arm positioning is recommended when displaying the model with the weapon raised.

• The included markings consist of marking stickers and dry-transfer decals; water-slide decals are not included.

• Product images may show a painted, panel-lined, decal-applied or professionally finished sample.

DeToyz Note

MG Ingram Unit 2 offers a very different building experience from a conventional Gundam model. Its design focuses on believable police machinery, with a detailed cockpit, practical weapon storage, rubber joint coverings and mechanical features based on how the Labor operates in the series.

The right-leg Revolver Cannon deployment is one of the kit’s most interesting features. Opening the compartment and extending the forearm allows builders to recreate the Ingram’s signature weapon-drawing sequence. Unit 2 also receives the large Riot Gun, giving it a more heavily armed appearance than the standard Ingram Unit 1 package.

The 1/35 scale is especially useful for diorama builders because it works naturally with many military figures, vehicles, road accessories and urban scenery in the same scale. Even as a standalone build, the distinctive Unit 2 head, police markings and Riot Gun give the finished model a strong display identity.

Keep in mind that this is an early-generation Master Grade kit. Its posing range is more restrained than modern releases, but the mechanical character, realistic proportions and Patlabor-specific gimmicks remain the main reasons to build it.
