Overview

Bandai’s MG 1/35 AV-98 Ingram Unit 3 recreates the reserve police Labor from Mobile Police Patlabor as a detailed Master Grade model kit.

Assigned to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Special Vehicles Section 2, Division 2, Ingram Unit 3 was initially maintained as a data-collection and reserve machine. It also served as a source of replacement components whenever Units 1 or 2 were damaged. After receiving upgraded head sensors, Unit 3 developed a distinctive appearance and became increasingly important during operations requiring electronic-warfare support.

This 1/35 model reproduces Unit 3’s unique head and angular shoulder armour, together with an opening cockpit, extending right forearm and right-leg Revolver Cannon storage mechanism. Its weapons include a Revolver Cannon, shield and Stun Stick parts in stored and extended states.

The included seated Shinobu Nagumo and standing Kiichi Goto figures add character and scale to the display, while synthetic-rubber joint covers help reproduce the Ingram’s flexible protective outer material.

• The kit was originally engineered in 2001, so its articulation and joint construction differ from newer Master Grade releases.

• The synthetic-rubber joint covers require careful positioning during assembly.

• Paint and primer may not adhere to the rubber covers as easily as standard plastic parts.

• The included markings consist of marking stickers and dry-transfer decals; water-slide decals are not included.

• Product images may show a painted, panel-lined, decal-applied or professionally finished sample.

• Some cockpit, figure, sensor and weapon details may require painting for full colour accuracy.

DeToyz Note

MG Ingram Unit 3 is particularly appealing for collectors who want to complete the full Special Vehicles Section 2 Ingram lineup. Its mechanical construction is shared with the other MG Ingram releases, but the simplified sensor-focused head, angular shoulders, shield markings and character figures give it a distinct identity.

The model’s operational background also makes it different from Units 1 and 2. Rather than having one permanent pilot, Unit 3 began as a reserve and data-collection machine. It later became associated with upgraded sensor and electronic-warfare capabilities, making it an important support unit despite appearing less frequently.

The right-leg Revolver Cannon storage and extending forearm remain the kit’s main mechanical attractions. The two Stun Stick states also provide both stored and active display options, although this package does not include Unit 2’s large Riot Gun.

As a 1/35 model, Ingram Unit 3 works well with military figures, service vehicles, road accessories and urban scenery in the same scale. It makes a strong standalone Patlabor display, but its biggest visual impact comes from placing it alongside MG Ingram Units 1 and 2.
