We caught up with Mr Mohd Suffian, whose reimagined Char’s Zaku II Ver.2.0 earned 2nd place at the DeToyz Plamo Contest 2025. The build blends smart redesign choices—most notably the left shoulder inspired by Zaku Solari from Requiem for Vengeance—with confident surface work, weathering, and characterful posing. This interview looks at his ideas, challenges, and what keeps him building.

1) Congratulations! How do you feel about winning 2nd place this year?

I'm grateful for this achievement. I take it as a recognition for my love and passion in this hobby.

2) What was the biggest challenge you faced while working on this kit?

The biggest challenge I faced was when trying to reshape some parts according to my ideas. At first, it didn't work out as I desire but I managed to repair it. In addition, working under time constraint was also one of the main challenges.

3) Did you try any new techniques, tools, or materials for this build?

This is the first kit where I used epoxy putty extensively to fully reshape certain parts.

4) Which part of your entry are you most proud of, and why?

I decided to redesign the left shoulder based on Zaku Solari from Requiem for Vengeance. Reshaping curved parts isn't easy.

5) Among all the entries this year, was there one that caught your attention or inspired you?

Personally I don't have any particular favorite entry as I find the majority of them interesting in their own way and identity. I can see participants have given their best and their works reflected this.

6) What motivates you to keep building model kits?

I just love these mecha/anime/games in general. Building model kits is a way to manifest this.

7) What advice would you give to newcomers who want to join next year’s contest?

Don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Keep experimenting and learn new techniques. Most importantly, know your strength and fully utilize it. Every builder has their own strength — find it and embrace it.

8) Any message you’d like to share with the DeToyz community?

I hope the community will keep on building and keep the hobby alive.

9) What’s your next project or dream kit you’d like to work on?

In the future I plan to start painting figures from my favorite games.

A clean, confident build with thoughtful reshaping work — especially that Solari-inspired shoulder. The surface texture, panel wear, and realistic stance give the Zaku strong presence. You can feel the care and patience behind every line and curve. Well deserved, Mr. Suffian.
