Since DPC 2026 has a longer build period and a stronger focus on storytelling and presentation, we want to clearly explain how entries will be judged this year.
DPC 2026 is still a contest — but it is not a race for technical perfection alone. We want to see works that feel complete, intentional, and meaningful as a whole.
Judges are not looking for the most expensive kit or the most complicated technique. We are looking for entries that show solid execution, thoughtful creativity, and most importantly, a clear sense of story, scene, or expression.
Judging Philosophy (What We Value Most)
For DPC 2026, we want builders to think beyond the model itself.
- Craftsmanship — clean build quality and solid execution
- Visual presentation — painting, finishing, and overall atmosphere
- Concept & storytelling — a clear idea behind the work
- Overall impact — whether the entry feels complete and memorable
Dioramas are not mandatory, but scene-based presentation and storytelling will be strongly rewarded when executed well.
DPC 2026 Scoring System (Total 100 Points)
1) Craftsmanship & Build Quality — 30 points
This is the foundation of every entry. Judges will look at overall build cleanliness and technical execution.
- Nub mark removal and surface cleanup
- Seam line treatment (where applicable)
- Alignment and fit quality
- Structural stability (especially important for diorama-based builds)
- Quality of modifications (if any)
Scoring guide:
- 0–10: Major build issues, unfinished areas, or rushed execution
- 11–20: Solid build quality with minor flaws
- 21–30: Clean and confident execution throughout the entire work
2) Painting & Visual Execution — 25 points
Painting and finishing are a major part of presentation. This category is not limited to weathering — clean builds can score equally well if the overall visual intent is clear.
- Paint finish quality and consistency
- Color scheme harmony and mood
- Detail painting and accents
- Decal work and markings (if used)
- Weathering effects (if used) and how well they support the scene
- Overall visual readability
Scoring guide:
- 0–8: Uneven finish or paintwork that distracts from the build
- 9–17: Good control and a coherent overall look
- 18–25: Strong visual execution that enhances atmosphere and presentation
3) Concept, Story & Creativity — 35 points
This is the core focus of DPC 2026. We want to see works that communicate an idea, mood, or story — even without a written explanation.
- Clear concept or narrative behind the work
- Originality and creative decision-making
- Use of posing, composition, and environment
- Scene design and storytelling clarity
- Creative kitbashing or modifications (if used)
- How well the model and diorama elements support the concept
Storytelling can be expressed in many ways — it does not have to be a battle scene. A quiet moment, a simple setting, or a personal theme can be just as strong if executed intentionally.
Scoring guide:
- 0–10: Concept unclear or disconnected from the final presentation
- 11–23: Clear idea with partial execution
- 24–35: Strong, readable story with confident and complete execution
4) Overall Impact & Cohesion — 10 points
This category reflects the overall feeling of the entry as a complete work. Even if a build is strong technically, the final piece should still feel unified and well presented.
- First impression and presentation strength
- Balance between build, paint, and story
- Consistency of mood and atmosphere
- Whether the work feels finished as a display piece
Scoring guide:
- 0–3: Fragmented or unfocused presentation
- 4–7: Generally cohesive and complete
- 8–10: Strong impact, memorable, and well unified
Important Notes
Diorama is not mandatory
Diorama builds are welcome and encouraged, but they are not required. A non-diorama entry can still score highly if it has strong concept, strong presentation, and clear storytelling through posing, composition, or creative design.
Weathering is not mandatory
Clean builds can score equally well. Weathering is only valuable if it supports the overall mood and scene.
Complexity does not guarantee a high score
A simple idea executed cleanly and intentionally can be more powerful than a complicated build that feels unfinished or unclear.
Final Reminder
DPC 2026 is a contest, but it is also a showcase. We want to see your best work — not just in technical skill, but in the way you express your ideas on the table.
If you’re planning your entry now, take your time. Good builds need time — and good stories need even more.
