We wrapped up 2025 with a small, chill RX-78-2 creative build meetup at DeToyz — good conversations, kuih & drinks, and a full table of unique ideas from the same simple kit.

DeToyz Year-End Chill 2025: RX-78-2 Creative Build Meetup

We had a really great time at DeToyz Year-End Chill 2025, and honestly, this was exactly the kind of event I hoped it would be and planned for.

This was a small group meetup, very relaxed and comfortable. Everyone could slow down, chit-chat, and actually spend time talking to each other. There was no rush, no pressure — just modelers hanging out, sharing their builds, and enjoying the hobby together.

Not a contest — just creativity.
This meetup is about ideas, fun, and sharing. We’re not counting seamlines. We’re celebrating creativity.

Before anything else, a big thank you to Mr Wong and Abang Pyan for sponsoring the kuih and drinks for the event. It might sound like a small thing, but having food and drinks on the table really helped set the mood. People stayed longer, talked more, and the whole event felt warmer and more personal.

One of my favorite moments was seeing all the modified RX-78-2 Workshop Kits lined up on the table. The kit itself is very simple — limited articulation, minimal detailing — but once everyone brought their own version, it became something completely different. Seeing them side by side really showed how much creativity can come from the same base kit.

Each modeler approached the RX-78-2 differently. Some focused on painting and colors, some went further by separating the waist and reconnecting it with a copper rod, some experimented with a 2D-style paint finish, and others made small but clever structural tweaks. No two kits looked the same, and that was exactly the point of this event.

Sharing session — every builder explained the story behind their modifications.

We also had a session where every modeler got a chance to talk about their own kit — why they chose that idea, how they did the modification, and what challenges they faced. Everyone could ask questions freely. This part turned out to be really good. It wasn’t a presentation or a demo — it was just builders sharing with builders. Very honest, very practical.

During the event, I had a nice conversation with one of the participants, Wafiq. He told me that before coming, he actually expected a bigger group, especially since we had larger events earlier this year — the Modelers’ Meetup in June and the DeToyz Plamo Contest 2025 in September. But after joining this session, he felt that this smaller group format was even better for him. He could learn from every modeler individually, ask questions directly, and really understand each build. He said he learned a lot during this event, and that was really good to hear.

Looking back, I think this confirmed something I’ve been trying to do intentionally — keeping the participant size small for this kind of event. My goal was simple: I wanted everyone to be able to talk to each other, know each other, and have enough time to discuss their kits properly. I believe we achieved what we planned, and I believe everyone benefited from it in their own way.

We’ll end 2025 with this chill, meaningful event — and we’ll start 2026 fresh. I’m sure there will be more fun activities and events coming in the new year, and I’m really looking forward to building more moments like this together.

Not a contest — just creativity.
No pressure. Just build, slowly.
